Arriving by air
Arriving at Santa Barbara Airport
For your convenience, we recommend flying to Santa Barbara Airport (SBA), located right by the UCSB campus. An Uber from SBA to campus takes only 5 minutes and costs $8. An Uber from SBA to downtown Santa Barbara takes 12 minutes and costs about $22.
Arriving at Los Angeles International Airport
If you fly to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), you can take the Airbus to Santa Barbara, which takes 2h30 and costs $55 each way (or $100 round trip, if reserved in advance). If you are two or more people, also consider renting a car and driving from LAX to Santa Barbara, which takes about 1h45.
Manzanita Village and Club & Guest House
To check-in for the Manzanita Village, please go to the DeAnza building located in the Manzanita Village complex. Look for the large blue sign that says Manzanita Conference Office. Manzanita Village check-in is open 7am-11pm every day, and 7am-1am on Sunday, 7/9.
The Club & Guest House is open 24-hours for check-in.
For those staying in Manzanita Village, a free shuttle service is available to/from the Santa Barbara Airport and Goleta Station of the Airbus between the hours of 7am and 10pm daily. If you are staying at The Club & Guest House, you will need to arrange for your own transportation to/from campus.
Wi-Fi network name: UCSB Wireless Web.
Every attendee will receive a unique access code.
Attendees staying in Manzanita Village will receive an access code at the Manzanita check-in desk.
All other attendees will receive their access code at the ISSTA registration desk (sticker inside your badge).
Parking on campus
The details are explained in a document that you received from Conference Services when you registered.
Here is the summary:
If you’re staying in Manzanita Village, you will get a complimentary permit for Parking 22 and Parking 18 (Mesa). Please remember to print out a temporary one-hour permit for your first hour of parking, which you can use to pick up your permanent permit.
If you’re staying at The Club & Guest House, you will receive an e-mail with instructions.
If you’re staying off-campus, you can purchase a one-day or a multi-day permit in Parking 18 (Mesa). Use code ISSTA at the vending machine. You can buy an all-day permit for any weekday (Mon-Fri) for $8. Evening-only permits and weekend-day permits cost $4.
UCSB is a pedestrian campus; parking space is limited. If you break any parking rules you will get a citation! If in doubt about where to park, please ask us.
Transportation between UCSB and SB
UCSB campus and Santa Barbara downtown are about 9 miles apart, joined by US Highway 101 and CA State Route 217.
By car, it takes about 15 minutes.
An Uber typically costs $22 (or higher in case of surge).
By bus, it takes 20 minutes on the 24X (UCSB express). The fare is $1.75 on the bus, and $1.15 if you buy a 10-ride pass that can be shared. We recommend checking the schedule, as the interval between buses can be up to 30 minutes.
UCSB Recreation Center
The Rec Cen is open seven days a week. A day pass costs $15 for adults, $8 for children, $10 for teens, and a photo ID is required. Equipment includes gym, weight training rooms, racquetball and squash courts, rock climbing wall, and three swimming pools.
Summer weather in Santa Barbara is very pleasant. Days are warm but not too hot (75ºF, 24ºC), and nights are cool (55ºF, 13ºC). We recommend bringing a sweater or light jacket for evenings. UCSB is a walking campus, so be sure to wear comfortable shoes.
